Perfecto - Age 82 - Española - Maestas

Perfecto Adan Maestas, 82, of Española, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 5, 2014.\r\nPerfecto was born in Alcalde, NM on May 22, 1931 to Sixto and Senaida Maestas. He graduated from Española High School in 1949. He bravely served our country for over 39 years, beginning as a Sergeant in the United States Army, where he fought in the Korean War. He continued to serve in the Army Reserve, National Guard and New Mexico State Guard. Years later he was an auto body instructor at Northern New Mexico Community College. He was extremely active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5610, American Legion and the Committee for the Veteran’s Memorial Wall. He was also a member of Nuestro Padre Jesus de Nacareno Morada in Los Pachecos. He enjoyed camping and fishing. Perfecto was a hard-working man with a kind and generous heart; and was a wonderful example of what it is to be a loving husband, father and grandfather.\r\nPerfecto was preceded in death by his parents, Sixto and Senaida Maestas; son, Paul Maestas; sisters, Frances Lopez and Pauline Perez; and brother Isidoro Maestas. \r\nHe leaves his memories to be cherished by his beloved wife of 59 years, Celene Maestas; brother, Sixto Maestas, Jr.; sisters, Irene Gifford and LaVerne Johannsen; son, Andrew Maestas (Lucille Valdez); daughters, Sarah (Ron) DeWitt, Maryfrances (Dino) Herrera, Teresa Martinez (companion) and Charlene Maestas; grandchildren, Vicente (Monica) Valdez, Melinda (Neil) DeHerrera, Clarissa (Jesse) Gonzalez, Enrique Valdez, Joann Maestas, Angelo (Natalia) Herrera, Therese Maestas, Christopher Martinez (Jackie Montoya), Anthony Maestas, Krystle Maestas, Christine Gomez and Leticia Gomez; and 17 great-grandchildren.\r\nPublic visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española with a rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 10, 2014at 9:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial will follow at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family for a meal at 12:30 p.m. following the burial at Sacred Heart Parish Hall in Española. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Vicente Valdez, Enrique Valdez, Angelo Herrera, Christopher Martinez and Anthony Maestas; and God-son Franklin Maestas. Remaining grandchildren are honorary pallbearers.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Perfecto Maestas to Alzheimer’s Association- New Mexico Chapter, 9500 Montgomery Blvd, Suite 121, Albuquerque, NM 87111. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Amber Care Hospice of Española for their support in his final days. The family of Perfecto Adan Maestas has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
