Pedro A. Age - 81 - El Guique Casados

d. January 20, 2012

Pedro A. Casados Sr., age 81, a lifetime resident of El Guique passed on peacefully in his sleep early morning on Friday, January 20, 2012 after a short illness. Pedro was the youngest son of Pedro & Augustinita Casados. Pedro’s four remaining siblings include Juanita (Martinez), Virginia (Maxwell), Leona (Chandler) and Marina (Wood). His siblings that have previously passed on include brothers Antonio and Robert; sisters Eloisa (Crumb) and Mercedes (Rivera). His surviving sister and brother-in-law(s) include: Margarita (wife of Reymundo Salazar), Tony (husband of Lugarda Maestas), Tomas & Mela (Archuleta) and Clora (wife of Juan Archuleta). Pedro is survived by his wife Juanita Archuleta Casados, his elementary school sweetheart, who accompanied him thru 61 years of marriage; together they raised a family of three children, Emily Casados-Reeves, Felicia Casados and Peter Casados Jr. Their grandchildren include Robert Reeves, Peter III and Katelynn Casados. A special granddaughter relationship also evolved over many years with Cheryl Abeyta of El Guique. Pedro had many nieces and nephews, all who held unique places in his heart and memories. Together Pedro and Juanita built a farm and ranch business known as Casados Farms which sustained their family; his son Peter Jr. has worked alongside them in their farm and cattle ranch. Pedro was able to be the “master of his universe”, never working for anyone yet working very hard throughout his life to build his business and manage his beloved land. He was a good friend to many; too many friends to mention individually but you all know who you are!! He understood the value of land and the food that grows from it when you nurture the land. Oftentimes Juanita would lament that her house was dirty because of the farmer dirt he’d bring into her house and she’d say (in Spanish): “Oh but his beloved fields, they don’t have one rock out of place but look at my kitchen floor”; his love for his land was demonstrated in its pristine condition!! A rosary by the Penitentes of Chamita, led by his brother-in-law Tomas Archuleta, will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 7 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan Pueblo) with a Catholic mass scheduled at the same church on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 beginning at 10 am with graveside funeral service to follow at the El Guique Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Teddy Abeyta, Jeremy Casados, Peter Garcia Jr., Michael Herrera, Robert Reeves and Alex Salazar. Honorary Pallbearers include: Tomas Archuleta, Peter Casados III, Dominic Casados, Benito Chavez, Antonio Maestas and Silas Romero. The family of Pedro A. Casados has entrusted the care of their loved on to the DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 1-877-747-3600
