Paul Medina, a resident of Chimayo, peacefully went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2024 at the age of 96. Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Mary Erlin, his sons Abran, Paul Harold and Tommy, granddaughter Tammie,daughter-in-law Annabelle Medina and son-in-law Henry Romero. He was also preceded in death by his mother Donaciana Medina and father Cyrille Van Hecke, his maternal grandparents who raised him Abran and Eduvigen Medina, brothers Joe and Jimmy Vigil, Milton Van Hecke, his sisters Gertrude Van Hecke Baker and Emma Ruth Van Hecke Baker Wagner, and cousins he regarded as sisters Edwina Esquibel and Flossie Montoya. 

Paul is survived by his daughters Georgia Romero, Olivia Trujillo (Roy) and Janet Rodriguez (Carlos), grandchildren Reena, Regina (Daniel), Monica, Daniel, Paula, Reylynn, Reyna, Joaquin (Alexandra),and Justina, great grandchildren Roxanne, Robert, Bruce (Sabrinna), Rayette (Manuel), Miranda, Brandy, Damian, Ryan, Rocky, Rheyssa, Ava, and Jackson, great-great grandchildren Antavion, Inessa, Aziah, Deianira andTiana. He is also survived by his sisters Edith Trujillo and Lucy Cordova and his beloved dog Buddy as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

His faith and profound relationship with the Lord guided him throughout his life. He did not hesitate to share that he talked with God every night. 

Paul worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Never shying away from a challenge in his work career as a machinist. He retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He taught his family the value of hard work, his legacy was instilling a strong a work ethic.

In his early years he found joy in hunting and fishing. Family and friends looked forward to these outdoor adventures with him, he was their “Hunting Guide.”

The family wishes to give sincere thanks and appreciation to Father John and to Lay Eucharistic Minister Serafina Lombardi Roberts and Joshua Lombardi Roberts “Medina” for their weekly visits, also to his dedicated nurses and personal care attendants who provided home health care services. He often expressed his appreciation for the care and kindness of the many people that helped him and the love for those who visited him. He established personal bonds with many. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, NM at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Interment will follow at the El Potrero Cemetery in Chimayo, NM. 

Serving as pallbearers are his sons-in-law, grandsons and great grandsons.

The family of Paul Medina has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home of the Española Valley 505-747-7477
