Paul - age 70 - Española Castañeda

PAUL CASTAÑEDA, 70, a resident of Española, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico in Albuquerque due to complications from Chronic Kidney Disease stemming from Rheumatic Heart Disease.\r\n \r\nPaul Castañeda was born in Mercedes, TX to Ben and Avelina (Avy) Castañeda y Galván on June 18, 1943. He made his way to New Mexico being the son of an Army Soldier, graduating from Sandia High School in Albuquerque in 1963 and moving to Santa Cruz, where he met and married Candelaria (Candie) Romero on June 5, 1965 in Santa Cruz de la Cañada Catholic Church.\r\n \r\nPaul Castañeda was preceded in death by his mother, Avelina Castañeda; father-in-law, Filadelfio Romero; mother-in-law, Filomena Romero; brother-in-law, Harold Romero and nephew, Orlando Romero. \r\n \r\nMr. Castañeda is survived by his wife, Candie; father, Ben Castañeda; son, Paul F. and daughter, Michelle; brothers, Ben and Daniel Castañeda; sisters, Rebecca (Becky) Olivas and Mary Balzer; grandchildren, Brittani, Jordan, Austin, Kaleigh and Santiago; great-grandchildren, Logan and Levi.\r\n \r\nA rosary will be recited on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial will take place at a later date. Serving the family as pallbearers, Jordan Rivera, Austin Rivera, Jimmy Castañeda, Marvin Romero, Jr., and Wayne and David Martinez. Honorary pallbearers, Jacob (Tony) Olivas, Andrew Balzer, Logan and Levi Clabaugh, Santiago Castañeda, Harold Romero, Jr. and Isaac Carlos Romero.\r\n \r\nMemorials may be given to the Castañeda family, specifically Candie Castañeda of 1708 Greenfield Rd. Española, NM 87532.\r\n \r\nThe family of Paul Castañeda wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr.’s Barry Ramo and Sean Mazer, and the numerous doctors, nurses and health care providers from the New Mexico Heart Institute and Heart Hospital of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
