Patti Stevenson-Brown Los Alamos, elementary school educator, community theatre actor and director, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend passed from this life at the age of 56 on Saturday, February 19, 2011 surrounded by her family and friends in the comfort of her home.\r\n Patti was a teacher of fourth grade at Aspen Elementary School, a profession she practiced with dedication and innovation. At Los Alamos Little Theatre, Patti directed such productions as How the Other Half Loves, Laundry and Bourbon and The Whole Shebang; her favorite acting included roles in Nunsense, Cowgirls, and Merry Wives of Windsor. She also served as the President of Theatre New Mexico. She was a member of the United Church where she greatly enjoyed singing in the choir. \r\n Patti received her BA in Communication and Theatre from David Lipscomb University in 1975 and a Masters of Arts at the University of Tennessee in 1977. She then received her Masters in Early Childhood and Elementary Education at the University of Alabama, where in Birmingham she was a professional actor with the Birmingham City School system, before turning to elementary school education.\r\n In the early eighties, her career took her to Artesia, NM, where her parents lived, and later to Los Alamos to take a job at Aspen Elementary School. At the Los Alamos Little Theatre she met Allen Brown; they married in October 1987 at Fuller Lodge, and the roses were still in bloom. Their joy in each other and theatre was matched only by the arrival of their daughter, Rachel, in 1992. They were then living outside of Dallas, TX but soon returned to Los Alamos in 1995 where they purchased a home overlooking one of the mesa views Patti so loved. There they were often joined by Patti’s stepdaughter, Nicole Giaquinto Brown. Patti finished her professional career at the Aspen Elementary School this last spring. Her colleagues and students will greatly miss her, as will the close-knit theatre community, and her many friends at church.\r\n Patti’s family was always the center of her life, and her loss is immeasurable to them. She is survived by her husband, Allen Brown of Los Alamos, NM; daughter Rachel Brown of Denver, CO; stepdaughter Nicole Giaquinto Brown of Los Angeles, CA; mother Doris Stevenson of Big Spring, TX; sister Christy Kimble and niece Sara Welch of Oklahoma City, OK.\r\n Interment ceremony will take place in the Columbarium Garden at the United Church of Los Alamos on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial service and celebration of Patti’s life will take place later at a time and place to be announced.
