Patrick G. Chavez Sr., 40, a resident of Española passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, October 22, 2011. Patrick was a very kind and loving headstrong person. He was admired by everyone who met him. His son and daughter were his pride and joy. He loved the outdoors especially fishing with his father and brother. His father called him his best fisherman. His prior employments were with chain food stores, State of New Mexico and casinos. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alberto and Rosita DeHerrera; paternal grandparents, Hipolito Chavez; uncle and godfather, Raymond Wheeler Sr.; uncle, Romolo DeHerrera; cousins: Thomas Rodriguez, Stephanie Padilla and Juan Sanchez. Patrick is survived by his daughter, Miranda Chavez; son, Patrick G. Chavez Jr.; parents, Paul W. and Linda A. Chavez; brother, Peter J. Chavez and companion Sonya Martinez; niece and God-daughter, RaeLynn F. Chavez; grandmother, Griselda Chavez; aunt and God-mother, Lydia Wheeler; aunts/uncles: Irene Rodriguez and companion Eddie Vigil, Rosita DeHerrera, David DeHerrera and wife Marie, Pete DeHerrera and wife Roberta, Cordie Herrera and husband Adonaldo, June Galvan and companion Gilbert Garcia, Jo Ann DeAguero and husband Arsenio, Eric Chavez, Paula Sanchez and husband Frank; mother of his children, Rachael Vargas; many close relatives & friends. Many close cousins and friends whom he grew up with and shared special memories. Wake service and rosary will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with Father Larry Brito officiating the mass. Interment will follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Eric Chavez, Gilbert Herrera, Anthony and Raymond Wheeler, Joseph Serna and Christopher Cata.
