Orlando R. Age - 71 Chimayo Martinez

Orlando R. Martinez, 71, a resident of Chimayo passed away on Friday, April 22, 2011. Mr. Martinez was a United States Army Veteran and served during the Vietnam Era. He was discharged in 1964. In 1965 he married Gloria Perez and had 4 kids. Mr. Martinez worked in the mines from 1966 to 1969. In the early 70’s he worked for the Santa Fe National Cemetery, and was also employed at Bandelier National Monument until his retirement in 1977. He enjoyed farming, and being in the woods collecting firewood. The most important thing that Mr. Martinez held close to him was family. He cherished the time that he could be with his children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters. Orlando was preceded in death by his parents, Toribio and Selsa Martinez; son, Manuel Martinez; daughter, Paula Martinez; sister, Natalie Moya and husband Edward; brothers: Gavino, Anselmo, Hector and Eluid Martinez. Mr. Martinez is survived by his sons: Paul R. Martinez and wife Elizabeth of Chimayo, Albert S. Martinez of Santa Fe; grandchildren: Paul J. Martinez, Angelic Martinez, Vanessa and Joshua Martinez, Fabyan Urioste, Dionza and Angelo Urioste; sister: Alicia lass of Chimayo, Lita Ortiz and husband Leroy of Chimayo; brothers: Lorenzo Martinez and wife Tessie of Chimayo, Robert Martinez and wife Elsie of Chimayo and Dennis Martinez of Hernandez; sisters-in-law: Elsie Martinez of El Llano, Dolores Martinez of Chimayo; special friend, Frankie Medina and wife Ruby of Cuarteles; many nephews, nieces, cousin and friends. Public visitation will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with burial to follow at Potrero Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers: Frank Medina, Paul J. Martinez, Joshua Martinez, Ralph Martinez, Aaron Salazar and Gilbert Olguin; honorary pallbearers will be all his grandchildren. The family of Orlando R.
