ORLANDO ORTIZ, 85, a resident of Nambe, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 25, 2015.  He was born July 24, 1929.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Eduardo and Paublita Ortiz; in-laws, Marcos and Eremita Vigil; son, Michael Ortiz; brother, Armando Ortiz; sisters, Martina Vigil, Vicenta Lujan, Elsie Sandoval, sons-in-law, Robert Stevens and Vernon Brown. Orlando served in the Army and worked at Los Alamos where he retired from Johnson Controls with 31 years of service.  He enjoyed working on his tractor, traveling, spending time with his family and friends, enjoyed camping, riding on his four-wheeler and doing yard work.  He enjoyed making people laugh and always brought a smile to those who knew him.  He was proud to live in Nambe and loved to talk about the history of the area.  He was a member of the Nuestra Senora De Guadalupe Parish, and a member of the Union Catolica del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus. Orlando was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. Mr. Ortiz is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Anita Ortiz of Nambe; daughters, Barbara Stevens, Orlinda Ortiz-Roybal (Alfredo), Debbie Brown all of Nambe; son, Gabriel Ortiz (Monica) Cuyamungue; five grandchildren, Gabriel Francisco Garnica, Sonya Ortiz, Ashley and Allison Brown, and Danielle Ortiz; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Antonio, and Ryan; brother, Claudio Ortiz (Maria); sister, Laura McCloud; brother-in-law, Merced Sandoval and many nieces and nephews and many other relatives. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambe with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque. Burial to follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery  with the following serving as pallbearers, Ray Santos, George Ortiz, Randy McCloud, Dean Chavez, Alfonso Archuleta and David Ortiz.  Honorary pallbearers, Sammy Lopez and Gilbert Garduño. The family extends special thanks to Mario Quintana, Daniel Lujan, and the hospice nurses who provided compassionate care to Orlando.  We would also like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. The family of Orlando Ortiz has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
