ORLANDO CORIZ, JR., a resident of Los Alamos and originally of Chimayo, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 11, 2012. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ross and Adelina Coriz; Grandfather, Raymond Herrera; maternal great-grandfather, Pete Lucero and uncle, David Coriz. Orlando loved music, playing his guitar and singing. He proudly served the United States Army National Guard for 15 plus years; having been honorably discharged. He loved his daughters and people; he was pure heart and a people person. Orlando knew and loved the Lord. He wrote I’m the son of Jesus Christ, the son of the living God. Mr. Coriz is survived by his daughters, Sammantha and Sabrinah Coriz both of Santa Fe; parents, Orlando Sr. and Bernice Coriz of La Mesilla; sisters, Erika Maestas and husband Chris of La Puebla, Desiree Aguino and husband Howie of La Mesilla; brother, Javin Coriz and wife Victoria of Chimayo; niece that was like a sister, Alexandria Romero of La Mesilla; grandmother, Prescilla Herrera of Santa Cruz; Padrino/uncle, Gilbert Coriz of Chimayo; God-son/nephew, Noah Coriz of Chimayo; nephews, Christopher, Joshua, Isaiah and Nathan; great-nephew, Emmanuel and niece, Hannah and a very special friend, Squeezer and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. Cremation arrangements have been completed. Memorial service will be held Friday, May 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at The Lighthouse Church in Chimayo with Pastor Kevin Gonzales officiating. Interment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery will take place on Tuesday May 22, 2012, with closing ceremonies and military honors to begin at 9:45 a.m. Those wishing to follow the procession may meet at DeVargas Funeral Home & Cremtory location at 8:30 a.m. Serving the family as honorary pallbearers will be: Jeff Fordham, Eloy Martinez, Chris Maestas, Fabian Martinez, Eugene Rodella, Felipe Atencio, Chris Beavers, Ismael Martinez, John Martinez and Alex Coriz.
