Nicole Atencio

On Saturday, February 27, 2021, NICOLE ATENCIO , passed away at her home in Alcalde. She was a loving and caring mother to Kailey, and Matthew Garcia.

Nicole was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Martin Guillen; uncles, Danny and Matthew Atencio, and Martin (Marty) Guillen; aunt, Darlene Guillen, and cousin Darla Serrano.

Nicole was born on December 8, 1990 in Santa Fe to Larry and Cathy Atencio. She graduated from Espanola Valley High School in 2009. Nicole had a very outgoing personality with a great sense of humor. Nicole was a friend to everyone and would give anything she had to anyone around her.  She put her heart and soul into everything she did. She was a hard worker and always did her best.  She enjoyed arts and crafts especially when she would do them with her children.

Nicole is survived by her parents, Larry and Cathy Atencio; her children, Kailey and Matthew Garcia and their father, Nicholas Garcia; paternal grandparents, Antonio (Tony) and Lourdes Atencio; maternal grandmother, Felisita (Fela) Guillen; brother, Larry and wife MariaLucia Atencio; niece, Selena; nephews, Michael and Martin; Godson, Jeremiah Rodriquez; Godparents, Johnny and Eva Martinez; uncles and aunts, Anthony Atencio and Yvette Romero, Emilio (Pino) and Shirley Atencio, Pamela Atencio, LoriAnn Keith and Joe Mascarenes, Debbie Guillen, Charles (Carlos) and Eileen Guillen; cousins, Stephanie and Jason, Allison and Marty, Samantha, Andres, Donovan, Devin, Landon, Anissa, Jenasii, Leo, Deanza, Crystal and Nathaniel, Monica and Santiago, Maurice, Anna, Serena and Valentine, Christopher, Jessica, Alyssa, and numerous other relatives.

The family would like to thank everyone who helped her, in whatever she needed or asked for.  Those acts of kindness are greatly appreciated.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions the family has requested if you are planning to attend the services, please choose either the rosary or the funeral mass. A rosary will be recited on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alcalde. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. also at the St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alcalde. Burial to follow at the Alcalde Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Christopher Keith, Valentine Rodriquez, Carlos Guillen, Anthony Atencio, Emilio Atencio, and Johnny Martinez. The family of Nicole Atencio has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
