NANCY TRUJILLO, 64, a lifelong resident of Chimayo, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 17, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abel and Adonisa Trujillo and nephew, Michael Allex. Ms. Trujillo is survived by her brothers and sisters, Juan Trujillo and wife Lucy, Cloraida Guevara and husband Carl, Utilia Allex and husband Hart, Cornelio Trujillo, Delbert Trujillo and wife Dolores; nieces and nephews, Veronica, Valerie, Vernon, Shannon Allex and wife Mellissa and daughter, Kristy, Lisa, Liana Hartlep and husband Thomas; great-nephew, Peter Trujillo; special cousin like a brother, Alonzo Trujillo and close special friend, Ymelda Roybal.\r\nNancy began her education at John Hyson Elementary School. She then attended McCurdy graduating as an exceptional student at age 16. She then attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM and attained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She later achieved a Masters degree in Counseling. Nancy had a long 30 plus year career working for the school system in various locations. She began working at the Chimayo Elementary School and then at John Hyson Elementary for several years. She also worked in Alaska as a counselor at a local school. After returning home to Chimayo, she continued a long counseling career at the Española Valley High School, where she touched and guided so many students. Upon retirement, Nancy devoted her life to building her home, which was a lifelong passion. Additionally, she took up craft hobbies such as sewing, knitting and jewelry making and design. She became an excellent carver, crafting Spanish colonial furniture. She always looked for ways to be creative and opportunities to learn about life. She was an avid book reader and loved watching movies. Nancy was adventurous; always looking for opportunities to travel domestically or internationally. She and her mother traveled to Europe. On her own, she ventured out to Mexico, Italy, Germany and Puerto Rico. In recent years, Nancy devoted much of her time to caring for her family in their time of need.\r\nPublic visitation will begin on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. also at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Nuestra Señora de Carmel Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers, Alonzo Trujillo, Vernon Trujillo, Shannon Allex, Peter Trujillo, Vincent Trujillo and Thomas Hartlep. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews, great-nephew and cousins, Loyola Montoya, Diana Trujillo, Susie Trujillo, Yolanda Trujillo and Eralia Garcia. The family thanks everyone for their undivided love and support for Nancy and her family. The family of Nancy Trujillo has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
