Monique Ortiz

Monique Crystal Ortiz, 38, of El Llano, NM, passed away suddenly on January 12, 2025.

Monique was born on November 29, 1986, to Dolores Sanchez and Nelson Montoya in Espanola, NM.

Monique was fun-loving and out-going. She loved her son Zachariah dearly. She was a homemaker and loved to take care of her mom. She loved her four dogs too. She loved God’s creations and the local band, “The Blue Ventures.”

Monique was preceded in death by great-grandparents Adelia and Remijo Torres; grandpa, Esteven Sanchez; uncles Lorenzo Alarcon and Samuel Sanchez.

She is survived by her grandmother that raised her Josie Ortiz of Rio Chiquito, NM; companion Gustavo Figueroa from El Llano, NM; mother Dolores Sanchez and stepfather Johnny Vigil of El Llano, NM; son Zachariah Apodaca; brother Matthew Ortiz and wife Christina Moreno; grandmother and grandfather Clorida and Arturo Prado of Cordova, NM; stepfather Billy Ortiz of Rio Chiquito, NM; uncles Pedro Sanchez (Jennifer) of Nambe, NM, Ramon Sanchez (Michelle) of Cordova, NM, Harold Sanchez (Gina) from in Espanola, NM, and Juan Sanchez (Anna) of Chamita, NM; auntie Connie Trujillo (David) of Chimayo, NM, Claudine Aquilar (Marvin) from Espanola, and Isela Archuleta (Daniel) of El Rito, NM, and Aunts and Uncles from New Mexico and Texas.

A Public Viewing will take place at DeVargas Funeral Home at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025. A Rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m. A Mass will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, NM, and burial will follow at Cordova Catholic Cemetery.
