Modesta Padilla

MODESTA PADILLA, 84, a resident of La Puebla, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Evaristo Padilla; 13 siblings, Antonia, Maria, Patricia, Demecio, Eufelia, Ascencion, Flora, Bertha, Elena, David; nephew, Leroy. Modesta enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, fishing, gardening and cooking.  She never had children of her own but loved all her nieces and nephews as if they were her children. She raised her nephew, Leroy and took care of her sister, Patricia and most recently cared for her great-nephew, Johnny David. Mrs. Padilla is survived by her brothers, Manuel Montoya of Chimayo and Solomon Montoya of Colorado; sisters, Cande Romero of Santa Cruz, Joann Vigil and Carmen Vigil of Sombrillo; special caretaker, Orlinda Garcia and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Burial to follow at the La Puebla Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Dwayne Vigil, Raymond Vigil, Benjie Montoya, Anthony Montoya, Mel Herrera, and Andy Montoya. Honorary pallbearers will be her many nieces and nephews. The family of Modesta Padilla has entrusted the care of their loved to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
