Mildred Diana - age 53 - Alcalde Martinez

\r\nMildred Diana Martinez, 53, current resident of Alcalde, went with our Lord on April 26, 2014, after a sudden illness with her family around her. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. Her granddaughter was the apple of her eye and she enjoyed her very much. She was always involved with her children whether it was sports or any other activity they were involved in. She was employed by the Northern New Mexico College until her retirement. She was involved in the Española Relay for Life for a couple of years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Martinez; brother, Jose Eugenio; sister-in-law, Stephanie Herrera; brother-in-law, Pablo Valdez, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Jose and Rosa Archuleta; paternal grandparents, Jose and Rosa Martinez; uncles, Donaldo and Cippie Archuleta, Clyde, Benny and David Guillen, aunts, Louisa Martinez, Angie Guillen, Clorinda Duda; comadre, Florence Herrera, and many other relatives. She is survived by her companion, Walter Herrera; sons, Dominic Herrera and companion Raven of Artesia, Shawn Herrera of Alcalde, daughter, Shanaya Herrera of Alcalde; granddaughter, Zuri Herrera of Artesia; father, Clarence Martinez of Española; parents-in-law, Harold and Ernestine Herrera of Alcalde; sisters, Rosie Valdez of Española, Geraldine Martinez of Española, Tammie Chavez and fiancé Patrick of Albuquerque; brothers, Clarence, Jr. and wife Lou Ann of Alcalde, Richard and wife Marlene of La Mesilla, Raymond and Daniel Martinez of Española, very special cousins close to her, Luana Martinez of Chimayo, Vickie Garcia of Hernandez, and Pam Lujan of La Mesilla and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephew also survived her. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday May 2, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada, with a burial to follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Michael, Matias, Nadine, Eric, Justin Martinez, Johnny Valdez, and Estevan Lujan, honorary pallbearers named are the rest of her nieces and nephews. The family of Mildred Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.\r\n \r\n
