Miguel (Mike) Trujillo

Miguel (Mike) A. Trujillo, a resident of Española, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.  Mr. Trujillo was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Trujillo and Eliza Trujillo (Campos); In laws, Jose Leon Abeyta and Bernadita Abeyta (Garcia); brother in law, Carlos Abeyta (Concha); sisters in law, Alice Lopez (Elfido, deceased); Onofre Salazar (Gregorio, deceased). Miguel retired from the State Highway Dept. after 30 years.  During those years and prior to, Mike would generously give a helping hand to anyone in need, especially his parents with the ranch in El Rito. During his young adult life, he spent riding his beautiful black horse (el Prieto) in the Sierra de El Rito bringing down the cows for the winter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, outdoor life of every kind, going for wood, he maintained a garden every year (vegetables were delicious), he and his wife planned and built a home in Espanola, NM.  In 1993 he suffered a brain hemorrhage due to an aneurysm and was cared for by his loving wife of 54 years. He is survived by his wife, Josie A. Trujillo; son, Michael Trujillo; daughter, Lorie Westervelt (Bob); grandchildren, Aaron Trujillo (Brenda), Megan Trujillo (Orlando) and Michael Trujillo; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Trujillo;  Brothers, Norberto Trujillo (Delia) of Las Cruces, NM and  Lucas Trujillo (Jessie) of El Rito, NM; Sisters, Ermalinda Romero (Manuel) of Santa Fe, Aurelia Dean (Zack) of Austin, TX and Presy Schafer (Jim, deceased); Sisters In law, Cleo Calistro (Daniel, deceased) of Flagstaff, AZ, Margarite Serna (Leo, deceased) of Phoenix, AZ, Octavania Abeyta (Sister Bernadita, OP) of Columbus, OH  and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends whom are all in our thoughts and prayers. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory will a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with burial to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Santa Fe. The family of Miguel (Mike) A. Trujillo has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
