Miquelita T. Vigil

Miquelita T. Vigil (Mickey), age 88, of San Pedro, NM, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her children on February 9, 2024.

She is preceded in death by her parents Benito and Josefita Trujillo, siblings Manuelita Martinez and Georgia Sanchez, brothers-in-law Anastacio Martinez, Cenobio Quintana, and Tony Sanchez.

She is survived by her siblings Matilde Quintana and Ernest Trujillo (Ida); her former spouse and father of her children Tomas Vigil and companion Virginia Martinez; her three children, Frances Rodriguez (Henry), Judy Fresquez (Gene), Thomas Vigil (Sheila); six grandchildren, Deondra Rodriguez, Raquel Rodriguez, Rico Rodriguez, Josh Fresquez, Mikaela Fresquez, James Vigil (Kathy), four great grandchildren, Veronica, Davina, James Jr., Khaliah; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Mickey was born on September 11, 1935, in Rio Chiquito, NM. She graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1955, worked for the postal service, and then became a childcare worker. She provided childcare to 27 children throughout her life, all whom she loved dearly. She was well known for her loving, caring, and compassionate heart and for spreading the Christian faith. She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, baking, studying the bible, writing down her favorite bible verses, and attending church services with her beloved sister, Matilde (Mattie). Her greatest joy in the final years of her life was spending time with her great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Ambercare Hospice Team (Mariah Pizzano, Christina Aragon, Virginia Sanchez, and Mike Haws) for their compassionate care. 

A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory in Española, NM.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the Victory Faith Church in Española, NM. A private burial will take place for immediate family at a future date.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren Deondra, Raquel, Rico, Josh, Mikaela, and James.
