Michael Thomas Benito Lucero, age 35, a resident of Dixon, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Beronis and Juan A. Romero, and Pete and Rosana Lucero; aunt and uncle, Olivia and Alfonso Valdes’, including many other close uncles, aunts and cousins. Michael was a member of the National Honor Society, MESA, and ran track throughout his years of high school. He was also an employee at the Los Alamos National Laboratories. He graduated from NMSU with a degree in Business Computer Systems. He then traveled to Washington D.C. where he began his career. He loved to travel to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Louisiana, Canada and many other places. Michael dedicated his time working with the Habitat for Humanity on weekends. During college he traveled to Malaga, Spain for a semester to learn Spanish. Michael was a selfless person. He always put others before himself, and worried about everyone. Mr. Lucero is survived by his parents, Marie Lucero of Dixon and Edwin Daniel, Jr.; brother, Greg Lucero; grandparents, Thelma and Benito Lucero of Dixon; niece, Janney Castillo; nephew, Oliver Lucero all of Santa Fe; aunt and uncle, Ben and Debbie Lucero; close cousins, Ryan, Brennan, Landon, and Kaylyn Lucero all of Colorado Springs, Colorado, sister-in-law, Claudia Castillo; and many other close family and friends. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Embudo Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Presbyterian Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Tommy Valdes’, Jason Romero, Brennan and Landon Lucero, Xavier Peña, Raul Abeyta, Stacey Boyle and Albert Gonzales.
