MERCED MANUEL LOPEZ, SR., 84, a resident of Los Alamos and Española, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013. The family, friends and loved ones of Merced Manuel Lopez, Sr. celebrate his life. Born on January 31, 1929, in Cuarteles, to the late Fidelia and Noberto Lopez. Merced was the proud head of family to 11 children, 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandsons. Merced lived in Northern New Mexico in Cuarteles, Los Alamos, and Española. Preceding him in death, are Johnny and Fidel. Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife of 54 years, Amelia M. Lopez and children, Lorenzita of Española, Magdalena of Albuquerque and Jackie of Española; daughters, Yolanda and Helen of Santa Fe; sons, Ronnie of Tierra Azul, Toby of Chimayo, Urban of Arroyo Seco, and Manuel and wife Jane of Anchorage, Alaska. Special people in Merced’s life include his caregiver, Diane Garcia for her loving and generous help to him. Merced spent many hours sharing life stories with Norman Martinez and enjoying their great friendship. Merced work for the Los Alamos National Laboratories, fearlessly, more than 44 years, always content that he brought tremendous value through his contribution. He enjoyed his work, family, chocolate, green chili and New Mexico’s cuisine. Merced leaves a message his family, friends and loved ones due to his Christianity, “tell my children about “Him”, and my children tell their children, and my grandson the football player, may they all never forget Gods teachings”. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos at a later date. The family of Merced Manuel Lopez, Sr. has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
