Mercedes "Mercy" V. Age-77 - Chamit Maestas

Mercedes “Mercy” V. Maestas, 77, a lifelong resident of Chamita and most recently of Albuquerque passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012 from a lengthy illness. She loved and lived her faith in every aspect of her life. She was a member of the church choir, a Eucharistic Minister, and a catechism teacher. Mercy loved music and loved to dance. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to sew, loved to go camping, and attend basketball games. Mercy participated in the Senior Olympics, where she won many medals. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Juanita Atencio; brothers/sisters: Fedelina Quintana, Rosa Montano, Manuelita Lujan, Lucille Martinez, Juan Atencio, Modesto Atencio; granddaughter, Angela Konitzer. Mercy is survived by her husband, Johnny R. Maestas of Albuquerque formerly of Chamita; children: Jeanette Maestas and husband David of Albuquerque, Debbie Maestas-Traynor and husband Randy of Albuquerque, Lynda Klein and husband Christopher of Sacramento, CA, Marquita Sanchez and fiancé Andrew Baca of Albuquerque; grandchildren: Stephanie and Albert Madrid, Kimberly and Francisco Baros, Joshua and Dominic Maestas, Jacqueline Konitzer, Mariah and Brandon Sanchez; step-grandchildren: Zachary, Jordan and Kyle Traynor, Pilar and Roman Baca; great-grandchildren: Isabella and Andres Baros, Nathaniel Madrid and Dominique Garcia; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives & friends. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial will take place at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Albuquerque, NM on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with the following serving as pallbearers: David Maestas, Randy Traynor, Christopher Klein, Joshua and Dominic Maestas, Kenneth Martinez; honorary pallbearers: Stephanie and Albert Madrid, Kimberly and Francisco Baros, Jacqueline Konitzer, Jon Garcia and Andrew Baca. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions to be made to St. Vincent de Paul of Española, 908 Rosario, Española, NM 87532 or 505-753-8690. The family of Mercedes “Mercy” V.
