Meliton Age - 85 - Chimayo Martinez

Meliton Martinez, 85, a resident of Chimayo, born on April 1, 1927 passed away with his loving family by his side on Saturday, March 2, 2013 following a lengthy illness. He loved having his family around him all the time. Meliton loved to carve canes and carved crosses and placed them in bottles, and also loved to read the Rio Grande Sun. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Sista Martinez; daughter, PhyllisAnn Martinez. Meliton is survived by his wife of 67 years, Serafina Martinez; daughters: Lucille Garcia (Tony), JoAnn Ortiz (Tito- whom he loved like a son), Jean Vigil (Senon) and Paulette Rauenzahn (Rick); sisters: Augustina Romero and Dora Espinoza; grandchildren: Lucresha Renteria, Xavier Garcia, Cinderella Herrera, PhyllisAnn Ortiz, Roxanne Gasca, Amanda Perkins, Marcos Sanchez, SarahRose Sanchez, Virginia Archuleta and Ashley Salazar; great-grandchildren: Antonio, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Kevin, Luis, Cassandra, Samantha, Kai and Robert sisters-in-law: Reyes Lopez (Anival) and Florida Martinez; numerous other loving relatives & friends. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial will take place at Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers: Orlando Romero, Rick Herrera, Marcos Sanchez, Nathaniel Ortiz, Kevin Gasca, Luis Herrera and Samantha Gasca; honorary pallbearers will be all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family of Meliton Martinez have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
