Melissa Jennifer Chacon

Melissa J. Chacon, 52, resident of Alcalde, NM, was suddenly called home by our Heavenly Father on July 10, 2024, after a series of illnesses. Melissa will join her beloved sister Janet, whom she missed and mourned every day since her passing on October 17, 1997. 

She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Genaro and Elvira Chacon; maternal grandparents Isidor and Ruby Velarde; her beloved aunt Loretta Valdivia, and Cousin Jerry Sanchez. 

She is survived by her parents Albert and Karen Chacon of Alcalde; beloved son Derrick Barela; and long-time partner and best friend James Scott; brother Andrew Chacon (Maria) who she loved as her sister and Jason Chacon; her beloved nieces Alyssa, Christiana, Janae and nephew Andrew Chacon. 

Also survived by Godparents Ronald and Connie Espinoza and Rachel Sanchez; aunt Linda Sanchez (Armando), Gloria Mallo and Sandra Velarde (Gilbert); uncles Michael Velarde (Denise), Jay Velarde (Theresa), special friend Elaine Rivera Solano and husband Richard of AZ; and many other cousins and friends. 

Melissa was a loving daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. 

Melissa had a strong faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ, which was a guiding light in her life. She also had a special devotion to our Blessed Mother.

Melissa enjoyed many hobbies, such as candle making and planting. She cared deeply for her pets and all animals. With a heart of gold, she will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. 

Funeral Services for Melissa Jennifer Chacon will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh.  Rosary will begin at 10:30 am, Mass to follow.  Interment will follow at the Alcalde Catholic Cemetery.  Reception to follow at the San Juan Parish Hall.
