Melisendro H. Duran Sr., 85, Born in Truchas and currently of Chamita passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents; Jose T. and Lucia Duran, 2 sons, Melisendro Jr. and Pablo Duran, step-son, Joseph Trujillo, grandson; J.D. Mascareñas Jr., father and mother-in-law; Pedro and Maria Frutosa Sanchez, brothers and sisters, Andronico, and Sergio Duran, Gregorita Rael, Cleo Barela, Juanita Burunda, Laura Martinez, Lala Bardusco, brother and sister-in-law; Dennis, Willie and wife Lydia Sanchez, LouAnna Sanchez, and Viola McTeigue. Melisendro was born on May 12, 1928, in Truchas, NM. He honorably served in the U.S. Air force during World War II. He met the love of his life in 1940 and they were married on August, 10, 1950. Melisendro worked at the Hill Field Air Force Base in Utah, and worked with Union Pacific, Atchison Topeka and the Burlington Railroads from Kansas to Wyoming. He worked with the State of New Mexico as a field heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He worked as security Police officer for various agencies and 8 Northern Pueblos, Casa Nova night club and he was an active member of the American Legion post 17. He loved fishing, hunting, and cared for his farm animals. He is survived by his wife Eugenia, sons, and daughters; Betty Espinoza (Manuel) Gene Duran (companion Stella), Marylou Hoffman Duran, Abel Duran, Connie Montoya (Michael), LouAnna Maestas (Milton), Joe Duran (Robin), Rosie Mascarenas (J.D.), Patricio Duran (Mari), Pauline Rael (Rubel), Brenda Marquez (Rogelio), a granddaughter raised like a daughter, Goldyne Duran. One sister Aselia Sandoval, brothers and sisters-in-laws; Maria Inez Duran, Richard Sanchez, Anita Ullibari and Carolina Sanchez, grandchildren; Brian, Conrad, Diego, Everett, Christy, Adrian, Angela, Vanessa, JV, Jolyn, Alejandra, Michele, Carlos, Jose, Tony, Miguel, Gabriel, Melissa, Diondra, Aracely, Emerald and 32 great-grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a funeral service to follow, burial to follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Assisting the family as pallbearers will be, LouAnna Maestas, Christy Duran, Carlos Montoya, Conrad Diego, Everette Espinosa, Jose Maestas, Tony, Miguel, and Gabriel Duran. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Able Duran, Brian Espinosa, and the rest of his grandchildren. The family of Melisendro Duran has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
