Melecio Martinez Jr.

Melecio Martinez Jr. 78, a lifelong resident of Chimayo, NM passed away peacefully at his home after fighting a lengthy illness on July 21, 2023, with his loving family by his side. 

Melecio is preceded in death by his parents Amalia & Melecio Martinez Sr., Sister Adelina Gray (Ron). BrothersGonzalo (Ermenda), Filimon (Betty), Arsenio, and Eliseo(Rosenda) Martinez. In-Laws Ermelinda & Nestor Chavez.Sister-In-Law Patsy Martinez; Brother-In-Laws Nestor, Leo, David & Frankie Chavez, Medardo & Tony Martinez.

Melecio is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Rosalie Martinez. Sons Melvin Martinez (Dora) & Tony Martinez(Gloria). Granddaughters Michaela Martinez (whom he helped raise as a daughter) & Cierra Martinez. Brother Leland Martinez (Dora). Sister Evila Martinez. Sister In Laws, Martha Aragon, Anabelle Coriz (Frank) Sally Chavez. Brother-In-Law Felix Martinez. Numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, close family memebers & friends, and beloved Shizu Baby (Bear).

Melecio was a hard worker, he worked many years for the IBEW Local 611. During this time, he worked on several projects throughout New Mexico and California. Melecio was a jack of all trades and enjoyed teaching his sons and granddaughters many of his traits. Melecio lived a life full of adventure, fun, and good times. He was a handsome, loving, and patient soul who could make a diamond out of a rock and fix just about anything. He cherished his family and had many friends whom he loved so very much. Melecio was loved greatly and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

A Public Viewing will be on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 5:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory in Espanola, NM, with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, NM.
