Mayda Martinez

MAYDA L. AUGEE MARTINEZ, at the age of 65 was a resident of La Mesilla and the date of Saturday, November 7, 2015 left this earth to be with the Lord. Mayda was a kind hearted lady who fought cancer very valiantly, but eventually was called to heaven and was blessed to be surrounded by her husband and son when she passed. Mayda was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Augee and Cande Ortega; in-laws, Mary and Arsenio Martinez. Mayda was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and met many close friends that thought about her every single day. She would come to New Mexico to visit some of her relatives in Chimayo, NM and eventually met Ramon Martinez, the love of her life. They had one child that the two both adored and they named him Charles. On August 5, 1990 they got married and went back to live in California. In 2004 they moved to New Mexico to be near their families and settled in La Mesilla. In NM, Mayda worked for Las Cumbres Community Learning Services where all her co-workers were her friends. She was a very loving and friendly person who had no trouble making friends. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing in her church choir. No matter how she was feeling Mayda would still go Christmas caroling with her son which she loved to do every year. Nothing would slow her down, because she was a strong women who cared for every person she met and she always would forgive everyone, due to her having a passionate heart. She had a great love for animals, especially her cats, Celeste, Boo-Boo, Midnight, Spunky and Buttercup. She loved children, and all her nieces and nephews just loved being around auntie Mayda. Nothing meant more to Mayda than the well-being of her family. Ramon was her soul mate for the 25 years they were married, they were always together. She was so proud of her son, Charles’ accomplishments. She would take lots of pictures of him to show them to others. Ramon and Charles were the love of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend. Mayda was so blessed to have many loving friends, neighbors and family to help care for her in the past 2 years of her illness. She was especially appreciative of all her nurses who gave so much love and care to her. The family of Mayda would like to thank all the staff of Del Corazon Hospice that came in and aided the family in a difficult time with prompt attention to every need. Mrs. Martinez is survived by her husband of 25 years, Ramon; son, Charles Martinez of La Mesilla; sisters-in-law, Virginia Martinez of Chimayo, Maggie and Lloyd Vigil of Rio Chiquito, Lina and Earl Towles of Cuarteles; brothers-in-law, Steve Martinez of Santa Fe, Joseph and Debbie Martinez of Cuarteles; 1st  cousins, Diana Ortega of Hoisington, KS, Edna and Gerry Facklam of Great Bend KS, Rosella and David Jardine of El Guigue, NM, Priscilla Naranjo of El Guigue, NM, and Stella Chavez of Santa Fe, NM and  numerous other cousins, uncles and other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Valley View Methodist Church.
