Maxie J. Rivera, 47, a lifelong resident of La Canova passed away after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Lucille Rivera; grandparents: Antonio and Eliza Rivera, and Dolores Martinez and Manuel Medina. Mr. Rivera is survived by his brother, Eddie Rivera and companion Nancy Trujillo; sisters: Frances (Kika) and husband Louis Sanchez, Penny Romero, Grace and husband Hoyt Hutchinson; special niece and goddaughter, Ashley and husband Lincoln Urioste, whom he loved as a daughter; nephews: Andrew, Adrien, Joshua and Aaron; nieces: Sara, Doreen and Megan; great-nephews and nieces: Jocelynn, Jeremy, and Jedidiah; aunts/uncles: Meliton and Lupe Medina, Frutoso Medina, Sylvia Salazar, Boonie and Eloy Miera; very special friend, Martha Ludwick; as well as many cousins and friends who loved him dearly. Public visitation will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde with burial to follow at La Villita Cemetery. Serving the family as honorary pallbearers will be: Joe and Pablo Medina, Benny Martinez, Harold Salazar, Jimmy Romero, Annette and Johnny Sanchez. The family of Maxie J.
