Max J. Vigil Jr., 91, passed away peacefully at his home in San Pedro, NM on Saturday, December 3, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Frances Vigil, parents Maximilliano and Georgia Vigil Sr., and grandson Eric Montoya.
He is survived by his children Michael Vigil, Raymond Vigil (Theresa), Maxine Gambler (Wallace), Maria Theresa Montoya, Andrew Vigil and Freida Vigil (George), brothers Gilbert Vigil, Clyde Vigil, Manuel Vigil and Fred Vigil, sisters Martha Catnach, Pita Otero (Danny) and Rosina Lettre (Marcel), 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and 5 Godchildren.
Max served in the US Army during the Korean War and he was the Commander of the American Legion Post 17 in Espanola, NM. He retired as a Warehouse Manager for Los Alamos National Labs.
Max truly enjoyed being a rancher and farmer. He and his wife loved to travel the world during their retirement. He loved New Mexico and would always say “Nuevo Mexico Lindo and have fun”.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Jesse and Max Villa. Joshua and Seth Gambler, George Romero and Manuel Zapata.
Honorary Pallbearers will be all his loving grandchildren and lifelong friend Ted Roybal.
A special “Thank You” to Giving Health Care, Ambercare and especially health-aid Holly Sanchez for her love and care of our dad.
Services will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM with a Rosary starting at 10:30 am and Mass to follow. A Reception will follow after Mass at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall in Espanola, NM. Burial will take place on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 1:30 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
