Max Lopez

MAX LOPEZ, 79, born September 24, 1939, a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lopez; daughter, Dolores “Loli” Lopez; sons, Sammy and Benny Gene Lopez; parents, Evaristo and Eufemia Lopez and grandson, Juan Lopez. Max was known by many as “Macho”. He was employed for the Jemez Co-op for 33 years. He loved playing his guitar, his dogs and his gato. He enjoyed being outdoors in the mountains, hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Lopez is survived by his children, Betty Lopez (Medardo), Isabel Lopez (Mike Prada) and Sammy Lopez, Jr. (Cynthia); grandchildren, Jacqueline Martinez (Joseph Vigil), Maxine Lovato-Smith (Bill), Samantha Lovato (Joshua Phillips) and Harvey Arellano; great-grandchildren, Shawn Alarid, Nicole Bejarano, Faith and Aubrey Smith, Deion Atkinson, Jestiny Martinez, Angel, Tiana and Ana Lisa Lopez; sister, Mary Garcia; very close nephews, Rudy Romero (Dolores) and Evaristo Lopez and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, with a burial to follow at the Cordova Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers, Harvey Arellano, Jacqueline Martinez, Maxine Lovato-Smith, Samantha Lovato, Shawn Alarid, Bill Smith, Rudy Romero and Joseph Vigil.
