Mary (Maria) S. Padilla , 97, a resident of Ranchitos, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 28, 2018, surrounded by her family. Mary was born on July 30, 1921. She was preceded by her spouse, Frank Padilla; parents, Juan and Raquel Salazar; in-laws, Pedro and Isabel Padilla; grandchildren, Audrey Padilla, Antonia Mascarenas and Jeremiah Padilla; her sisters and their spouses, Ramona, Encarnacion, Lidia (Jacobo) Maestas, Bernie (Anselmo) Lopez and Aurelia (Avelino) Lopez; her young brothers, Daniel and Juan Leandro; sisters and brothers-in-law, Modesta (Avaristo) Padilla, Juana (Manuel) Padilla, Senovia (Luis) Padilla, Luisita (Jose) Padilla, Sally Padilla, Adela Montoya, Gary Padilla, Riley Edmonds and Napaleon Salazar; sons-in-law, Sam Herrera and Dr. Rudy Gonzales; a close cousin, Abel Martinez. Mary’s accomplishments: A member of the Living Water Choir at St. John the Baptist Parish, Okay Owingeh. Was a past Leader of Living Water Prayer Group, Hospital Communion Ministry, also taught CCD classes and Blessed Sacrament Ministry. She was a person of strong faith in our Lord and to her last days still sang and praised God. She touched many people in her life and a number of them adopted her and her husband as their parents. Our Spiritual brothers and sisters know who they are. Mrs. Padilla is survived by her children and their spouses, Tony (Mary) Padilla, Amelia Gonzales (friend, Wilfred Bustos), Daniel (Eileen) Padilla, Charlotte (Pres) Romero, Joe (Connie) Padilla, Evelyn (Alfred) Herrera; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia (Delfin) Garcia; brother, Jose Guillermo (Maria) Salazar; in-laws, Ernestine Edmonds, Helen Salazar, Rafalita (Belarmino) Martinez, Edna (Bill) Schutz, Pete Padilla, and Vicki Padilla; a close cousin, Clarita Martinez and many other relatives. A rosary will be recited on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Española with the following serving as pallbearers, Jeff Padilla, Joseph (Joey) Padilla, Joe Padilla Jr., Matthew Romero, Andrew Herrera and Michael Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; God-children and all those who visited her. The family of Mary (Maria) S. Padilla has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
