Mary Madeline Age - 75 San Juan Pueblo Garcia

Mary M. Garcia 75, a resident of Ohkay Owingeh passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011, peacefully at home from a lengthy illness. Mary enjoyed to visit the community senior center and loved to go to ceramics and play bingo. She was a very loving woman who cared for everyone and would always lend a hand. In her early years she participated in traditional dances in the Pueblo and activities that were held. Mary also participated in the Senior Olympics and won numerous medals and ribbons. She was also a member of the Tewa Choir, and part of the Holy Family Society for many years. She retired after 35 years of government service for BIA San Juan Day School. Mary will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her maternal parents Jose and Josefita Garcia; brothers: Porfelio, Marcelino and Andrew Lee Garcia; sisters: Reycita Martinez, Teresita and Senovia Garcia. She is survived by her only son, Anthony and wife Nancy R. Garcia; step-children: Jared, Jeff, Ashley and Brianna Pompeo; brothers: Alex Garnat and wife Julie and their children Victoria and Robert, Alex Jr. Garnat wife Doris; Augustine (Gus) Garcia and his children Ray, Bryan, Tamra, and Myla Garcia, Simon Baca, Doreen and husband Will their children Jerrika and Jarren Frenier; nephew: Clyde and wife Gloria Garcia and their children Ian and Tisa Garcia, and David Maestas; Niece: Kathy and husband Adrian Montoya and their children Rena, Xzavier Montoya, Adrian Jr. and girlfriend Sandi Martinez, Sean Montoya and Martina Montoya; many nieces and nephews: Darryl and wife June Martinez, Robert Garcia, Rickie, Mary, Janet and Maxine all residents of Utah. Rosary will be recited on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the family home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with burial to follow at San Juan Pueblo Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Clyde Garcia, Adrian Montoya Jr. Bryan, Jared, Darryl, Robert M., Simon, Robert G. and Alex G. The family of Mary Garcia have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
