Mary Edwina Salazar, 77, a resident of Española, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 26, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Carlota Martinez; husbands, Arsenio Salazar and Gilbert Herrera; brothers, Gavino Martinez, Vidal and Rose Martinez; son-in-law, Richard Garcia. Mary loved going to bingo, she retired from Española Public Schools and continued working part time for the Española public schools. She was involved with St. Vicient De Paul. She was well respected and had numerous friends anywhere she went, she always made a friend. She was warm and friendly to everyone she met. She enjoyed being around her grandkids they were her pride and joy. She is survived by her children, Michael G. Salazar, Cindy Garcia (Ray), Aaron Salazar (Christina), Elizabeth Martinez (Paul), Arsenio Salazar (Bernadette); brothers, Andronico Martinez (Eliza), Orlando Martinez (Marcela), sister, Lucille Gallegos (Anselmo); sister-in-law, Alice Martinez, Luisa Lotrick (Frank), Marina Thaxton (Cleet), Severiana; brother-in-law, Dennis Herrera (Angie), 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a burial to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers Michael Salazar Jr., Rick Garcia, Orlando Garcia, Aaron Salazar (AJ), Paul Martinez Jr., Rebecca Salazar, Angelic Martinez, and Vanessa Martinez, Amy Salazar. The family of Mary Edwina Salazar has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
