Mary - Age 92 - La Mesilla Singleton

MARY JULIETTE SINGLETON, 92, a resident of La Mesilla, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013 following a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Barr Singleton; parents, Jesse and Alfred Williams of St. Louis, MO; 3 siblings and 2 nephews. Mrs. Singleton is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Juliet; sons, Tom, Tim and Patrick Singleton, all of New Mexico; 2 daughters-in-law; siblings, Berenice Mahacek and Robert Williams and their spouses all of St. Louis, MO, sister - in - law Vera Williams, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.\r\nMary and Lloyd were born and raised in St. Louis. After Lloyd’s military discharge they moved to Los Alamos in late 1947 and raised a family. In 1965 they bought a home in La Mesilla. Mostly a homemaker, Mary worked briefly as a dental assistant in St. Louis and Los Alamos. Devoutly Catholic, she worshiped at Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz.\r\nOnce widowed, Mary began folding weekly church bulletins at Holy Cross, a job she last did 2 days prior to falling ill. For over 10 years after her husband’s death, she made weekly visits to the Española Valley Nursing Home, bringing little sacks of goodies and her warm comfort to folks she had met while visiting Lloyd. All her life she was kind and generous to everyone she knew and she always put others first.\r\nMary loved baking, laughter, bowling, little kids and baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. She was “famous” for her multiplicity of generously distributed homemade Christmas cookies, breads and candies, and for her dearly loved handwritten letters, cards and notes. Ready to go, she said early that week, “I see Jesus, smiling. He’s waiting for me.”\r\nA rosary will be recited on Friday, September 20, 2013, Promptly at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory followed by a memorial service with Testimonials Encouraged (funny or sweet) at 7:30. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial of ashes at Santa Fe National Cemetery is pending. The family of Mary J. Singleton has entrusted her to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
