MARY COUSINS, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014. Mary Ellen Cousins was born on the 20th of January, 1934 to Leo and Frieda Nordberg in St Louis, MO. She was the only daughter out of 5 children. She spent her early years growing up in St Louis and moved to Sparta, IL before Jr. High. She and all of her brothers graduated from Sparta High. She then followed in the family tradition of attending Southern Illinois University.\r\nShe returned to St Louis and there she met her future husband, Bob. They were married Nov 5, 1955 in Sparta IL. After a few years, they settled in Chester, IL where they raised their children until 1971 when they moved to Escondido, CA. \r\nIn 1973 she and Bob joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with their family. She was actively involved in many Church callings. She and Bob performed many acts of kindness and service to those around them. \r\nMary loved nature and enjoyed many camping trips with her family. She enjoyed sewing and had made most of her own clothing. She also enjoyed cross stitching, and over the years has completed many beautiful pieces.\r\nMary was always available to listen to anyone who needed to talk. Many people benefitted from her listening ear and warm hugs.\r\nMary is survived by her brother, David Nordberg; children, Kelly Lyon (Roger), Randall Cousins, Rebecca Betts (Stephen) Donna Gentry; 21 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. At last, Mary and Bob have been reunited with their parents, siblings, and grandchildren. We love you Mom!\r\nFuneral service will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Los Alamos with a burial to follow at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family of Mary Cousins has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
