MARVIN RAY BRANDSTETTER\r\nMarvin left this world after his body finally gave out while fighting a courageous battle with cancer. His suffering is now over, and he is no doubt enjoying the company of his first son, Ricky who preceded him in death.\r\nMarvin had a high level of intelligence, many diverse interests and was passionate about his work as a Civil Engineer and he continued that pursuit right up until his passing. He also loved horse racing, shooting pool and playing cards with his friends and watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys with a Coors Light in hand. Additionally, he was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie number 3695.\r\nMarvin was a gentle soul with an infectious laugh who enjoyed the company of family and friends. He was always the life of the party. All who knew him are better for it.\r\nThere is not enough space to list all of the lives Marvin touched during his 72 years on earth. He was blessed to have two families; his natural family the Herrera’s and his adoptive family the Brandstetters.\r\nMr. Brandstetter is survived by his wife, Kathy Brandstetter of the family home; daughters, Pamela Jeffries and husband Steve of Las Cruces and Channelle and Angel Brandstetter of the family home; son, Scott Brandstetter of Durango, CO; grandchildren, Nicole and Stephen Jeffries of Las Cruces, Frank Brewer of Santa Clara, Kimberly Miller and husband Josh of Taos; 2 great-grandchildren, Lily and Abigail Miller of Taos; God-daughter, Ana Lisa Montoya-Torres of Albuquerque; mother of his children, Harriet Brandstetter of Durango, CO;\r\nAdditional survivors include: 3 sisters, Anges, Florence and Dorothy; brother, Paul; sisters-in-law, Patty and husband Wilfred, Dorothy and husband David and Renee and husband Rex; brothers-in-law, Frank and wife Carol, Gregg and Johnny Pacheco; special nephews, Moroni Herrera, Kenneth Sanchez and many other nieces and nephews.\r\nHe is also survived by his “partners in crime” and lifelong compadres, Ernie Montoya, Ralph Ortega, Dwight Pippin, Leroy Salazar, Gilbert Rivera and Lorenzo Quintana, “ Willie’s Place Locals”, Felix, Ricky, Yolanda, Clyde, JR, Herman, Christine and countless other family and friends who love and will miss him dearly. \r\nMarvin was preceded in death by his step-children, Matthew and Melissa Atencio; parents, Fabian and Eloisa Herrera and Reverend Albert and Edna Brandstetter; sisters, Ernestina, Mary, Ornelia, Delia and Ruth; brothers, Fabian, Marcelino, Pedro, Franklin and James. \r\nA memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Jimmy V. foundation for cancer research at www.jimmyv.org.\r\nThe family of Marvin Ray Brandstetter has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.\r\n
