Martin A. Guillen, 74, a resident of Alcalde passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio B. and Estefanita Guillen; In-laws, Edwardo and Genera Edmonds; son, Martin D and wife Darlene Guillen; brothers, Clyde and wife Angie, Benny and wife Clara, Lawrence Guillen, sister, Clory and husband Edward Duda, brothers-in-law, Gilbert, Augustine, Richard, Joe, Mike, Riley and Eddie Edmonds, sister-in-law, Isabel Martinez. Martin was a very generous man who enjoyed working not only at his own home but at his children, and grandchildren’s home. He was always willing to assist people in need which was demonstrated in his church and community volunteer work. Martin took much pride in his special projects such as restoring the Los Lucero’s Church. Martin served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Felicita Guillen; daughters, LoriAnn Keith, Debbie Guillen, Cathy and husband Larry R. Atencio, son, Carlos and wife Eileen Guillen; brothers, Frank and wife Esperanza, Tony and wife Lillian, Richard and wife Maxine, sisters, Bernie and husband JC Herrera, Ernestine and husband Harold Herrera; sisters-in-law, Virginia, Alvera, Ernestine Edmonds, Susie and husband Henry Lopez; grandchildren, Monica and husband Santiago, Darla and husband Maurice, Anna, Serena and husband Val, Christopher, Crystal and fiancé Nathaniel, Larry Jr. and wife MariaLucia, Nicole, Jessica and Alyssa. Great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Dominic, Jeremiah, Joseph, Emiliano, Navid, Kailey and expected baby Atencio. The Guillen family would like to thank each and every individual for their thoughtful prayers during Martin’s illness. A special thanks to Father Brito and Father Pierson, his friend Genaro Martinez, the doctors and nurses who cared for Martin at the University of Colorado Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital, and the Espanola Home Health, especially Siri Khalsa. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alcalde, followed with a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with a burial to follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Frank Guillen, Tony Guillen, Richard Guillen, Edward “Rusty” Guillen, Eddie Duda Jr., Benito Herrera, honorary pallbearers named are his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and members of the State of New Mexico Knights of Columbus.
