MARTHA ANN HOOD BROWN, 94, beloved wife of the late Edward A. Brown, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2016, born in Knoxville, TN, on February 13, 1922 to Amy and Karl Kedzie Hood and was the middle of three brothers and two sisters. An Alumnus of University of New Mexico where she received her BS in Education and Journalism. Married Edward A. Brown, three children, Phillip Brown, Amy Olcott, and the late Richard Rand Brown; four grandchildren, Shea LeBrun, Monty Brown, Brandon, Olcott, Kristen Olcott, five great-grandchildren, Orion Olcott, Victor Olcott, Ashlin Brown, Senna La Brun, and Isabella Bennett. Marty had a wonderful life that was filled with many blessings. While at UMN she was elected the campus representative for Paramount Studios All American College Queen. After traveling with Edward in the Navy, they settled in Los Alamos for 50 years. In her early years, she was a first grade teacher. Marty had many lasting friendships. She enjoyed many adventurous trips to Mexico and New Zealand. She was very active and loved tennis, ping pong, water and snow skiing, swimming, golf, hiking. She loved picnics at Camp May and Bandelier. There were many family get together, especially at Thanksgiving where everyone enjoyed her baking talents for bread, cinnamon rolls, brownies, and fudge. She had a zest for life, a sincere caring heart, and will greatly be missed. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, with a burial to follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A reception will follow in Santa Fe immediately following the cemetery. Address to be disclosed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family of Martha Ann Hood Brown has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
