Martha Gonzales

Martha S. Gonzales, 82, a resident of Llano de San Juan, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 surrounded by her family. On this day, we lost a strong, courageous and beautiful woman who fought hard, to a long battle with cancer. Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years (Mi Hunny), Eli Gonzales; parents, Eugenio and Clara Sena; siblings, Clarence and Aurelio Sena and Virginia Tafoya, and infant daughter, Gloria. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who loved unconditionally. Not only did she have a great love for her family and friends, but her faith. Mom was known for her delicious tortillas, oven bread and baked goods. All who entered her home was greeted with that Northern New Mexico hospitality, meaning you never left her home without having a meal prepared for you and your family. She also enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, listening to music and praying her rosary. All who crossed paths with her fell in love with her kind heart, sweetness and generosity. Whether she knew you or just passed you by, she would say God bless you and have a good day. Martha is survived by her children, Martha Georgia Sanchez (Francisco), Gabe Gonzales (Norma), Rachael Lopez (Fred), Richard Gonzales (Teresa), Faby Mondragon (Leo), Patsy Valdez (Marvin) and Lillian Vigil; sister, Josie Romero; sister-in-law, Melicia Gonzales; 22 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and many relatives and friends. Special thanks to Linda Esquibel (Care Coordinator) who was like family, AAA Homecare Penny and staff, Mountain Home Health/Hospice, Presbyterian Española, Christus St. Vincent’s Cancer Center, Peñasco Panther Volleyball team for your kindness and generosity, Walter, Jeanine, Rose and all of you who came to visit, pray or made the phone call to check on our mother. Public visitation will take place on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco, with a rosary to be recited by the Carmelitas and Hermanos at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. also at St. Antonio de Padua Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Llano de San Juan Morada Cemetery. Pallbearers who are honored to carry this precious diamond to her resting place will be Raymond Duran Jr., Gabriel Gonzales, Joseph Mondragon, Andrew Sanchez, Daniel Navarro, Joe, Sean and Joell Aquino, Robert Grant and Miguel Rodriguez. The family of Martha S. Gonzales has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
