Martha Aragon

Martha Aragon, 76 years old, a resident of Chimayo, NM, was called by our Lord on February 9, 2024. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. Martha was born on August 10, 1947. Martha worked for many years as a librarian. She enjoyed evening walks to the Santuario with her granddaughters. Martha had a green thumb and loved gardening; she enjoyed doing yard work. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. She loved dancing and listening to music. Martha was loving and caring. Anyone who knew her knew she had a heart of gold. Martha was loved unconditionally by her family and friends. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Nestor and Ermilinda Chavez, her husband, Medardo Martinez, children Renee Martinez, Medardo Jr Chavez, Alvin Martinez, and grandson Gabriel Chavez.  Four brothers, Nestor Chavez Jr, Leo Chavez, David Chavez, and Frankie Chavez, sister Patsy Martinez, son in-law Ricky Torrez. 

She is survived by her daughter Amy (Clyde Maes), A Granddaughter who was raised as a daughter Lorraine (Julian Sandoval), a grandson who was raised as a son Anthony Silva, and special great-granddaughters Alexandra and Leigha. Grandchildren Angelic Silva, Calvin Martinez, Martin Martinez, Leo Martinez, Ashley Chavez, and Juanito Duran, sisters Annabelle (Frank Coriz), Rosalie Martinez, sister in-law, Aggie Chavez, eight great-grandkids, and Savannah (Anjel), who was like a granddaughter, goddaughter Christie Valdez (Tony Valdez) and her little fur baby Chica, and many other nieces, nephews, and friends. 

A public visitation will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 5:00 pm with a a rosary to follow at 6:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday February 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo NM and Burial to take place at El Potrero Cemetery in Chimayo, NM.   

Serving as pallbearers, Julian Sandoval, Anthony Silva, Calvin Martinez, Leo Martinez, Tony Martinez, and Melvin Martinez. Honorary pallbearers: Martin, Angelic, Ashely, Alexandra, Juanito, and Savannah.
