Marion “Red” M. Evans passed from this life to attend a very important meeting with the Lord on Saturday, January 5, 2013. He was 85 years old. Marion Evans was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He loved kids, animals, traveling, camping with friends, Cadillac cars, and motorcycles.\r\nMarion was born on July 24, 1927 at the Evans family farm in Clay County, Indiana near the town of Brazil, Indiana. He was the fifth child of seven children born to Arthur and Rufina Evans. He had four older brothers (Donald, Richard, William, (Carroll), one younger brother (Jack) and a younger sister (Madge). \r\nMarion lived in Indiana until his family moved to Cuba, Illinois in 1941. He played football for the Cuba Cardinals and completed his high school education at Cuba High School.\r\nHe was a United States Army World War II veteran. He served in Japan from October 16, 1946 through February 17, 1947. He earned the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. Marion was Honorably Discharged from the Army on March 21, 1947. After returning home, he married Patricia M. Smith on September 2, 1950.\r\nMarion retired from General Motors Corporation in Marion, Indiana after 31 years of service as a Tool and Die maker. His career and handyman skills at home reflected his remarkable mechanical ability to build and repair just about anything. He volunteered a tremendous amount of time and effort to the Boy Scouts of America; the Marion High School Marching Band Boosters and was always ready to assist others in need. He could be easily identified by his red hair and his toothpick filled smile.\r\nHe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia M. (Smith) Evans; sister, Madge Weaver and husband, Tim Weaver; daughters, Pamela Evans and Sherry Evans-Carmichael (Jeff); son, Kevin Evans (Karen); 4 grandchildren - Eric Crump, Tia Carmichael, Emily Pantel (Jannis), Jonathan Evans (Cassandra) and two great-grandchildren Lina and Jamie Pantel; three sister-in-laws, Sandra Palmer (Leon), Jean Evans (Jack) and Elizabeth Evans (Donald); six nephews (Gary, Kent, David, Mark, Sam, Tim); five nieces (Lissa, Joyce, Cindy, Janet, Sandy); numerous close family and friends.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his Mother (Rufina) and Father (Arthur) Evans and brothers; Donald, Richard, William, Carroll and Jack Evans; and a grandson (Russell Carmichael).\r\nCremation took place at the De Vargas Funeral Home on Friday, January 18, 2013. A memorial service to celebrate and honor his life will be held in Spring 2013 at the Cuba Christian Church in Cuba, Illinois. Plans have not been finalized. A reception will follow the memorial service. Interment will be private.
