Marina Age - 84 - Riverside Martinez

Marina Martinez, 84, a resident of Riverside passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. She was a very loving person who opened her home and heart to all; she made sure no one went hungry. Marina was preceded in death by her sons: Tano, Modie, George and Howard Martinez; grandchildren: Joe Howard, Christopher and Antoinette Martinez. Marina is survived by her husband of 67 ½ years, Modesto Martinez; daughters: Mary Sandoval and husband Jake, Inez Valencia and husband Edward, Angela Trujillo and husband Jerry; sons: David Martinez and wife Lorraine, Michael Martinez and wife Karen, Jerry Martinez and wife Darby, Leonard Martinez and companion Denise, Melvin Martinez and companion Jean; sisters: Frances Diehl of Alamogordo, Lorenza Armijo of Santa Fe, Erlinda Meyers of Santa Fe, Stella Martinez of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Anita Martinez of Española; daughters-in-law; Veronica Martinez of Hernandez, JoAnn Martinez of Dixon, Diane Martinez of Santa Fe; 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews that she loved as her own. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with burial to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: David, Michael, Jerry, Leonard, Melvin, Julian and Leonard Martinez Jr. In lieu of flowers the family asks that monetary donations be made in Marina’s honor to the San Martin de Torres Soup Kitchen (sanmartinsk@yahoo.com) or Ambercare. The family of Marina Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
