Marie T. Lyon , 78, born July 29, 1939, from Santa Clara Pueblo went to join her husband on June 14, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Lyon, her parents Domacio and Patracinia Tafoya, brothers and sisters, Dale Tafoya, Louie (Florence) Naranjo, Ignacio (Maria) Naranjo, Victoria (Teofilo) Dasheno, Albeidia (Juan) Tafoya, Carolyn Tafoya, Genevieve (Henry) Suazo, Christine (Nestor) Montoya, Calvin Tafoya & grandson Derrick Lyon. She is survived by David (Reyanne) Lyon, Valarie (Loren) Vigil, Stephanie (Wilbert) Salazar, Jeffery (Liza) Lyon, grandchildren Raechele (Nicolas) Lyon, Jaelynn (Carlos) Wooten, Taylor Rose Vigil, Skylar (Benjamin) Roybal, Shanaya Aquino, JP Lyon, Kristyn Salazar, Zachery Salazar, Marcus Salazar, Tamryn Lyon, great grandchildren Emyli, Isabelle & Jacob Lyon, and Aria Wooten. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Marie met her husband in Chicago, not only did she find the love of her life, she found her love of the Chicago Cubs. In 2016, she witnessed something she waited a lifetime for, her Cubs won the World Series. She was the #1 fan and supporter of her kids and grandkid’s sports activities & she loved to participate in the Senior Olympics where she brought home many medals! She lit up a room with her smile and laughter & was an avid collector of the “End of the Trail” sand paintings, that she adorned her loving house with. Known for her ease in conversations with even total strangers, some may be surprised to learn of the extreme shyness of her youth. Yet even as a child, she possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smile, laughter and joking around, will never be forgotten. Mama Lyon’s funeral mass was held at Santa Clara Pueblo Catholic Church on Friday, June 15, 2018. The Lyon Family is deeply grateful for the out pouring of love, prayers, food and support in so many heart- felt ways. Our mother is our Angel that lived, laughed and loved. The family of Marie T. Lyon has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espanola Valley.
