Maria Nimfa - age 98 - Santa Fe Esquibel

Maria Nimfa Esquibel, 98, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Mary Nimfa Esquibel joined her Creator on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. the Hour of Divine Mercy. Nimfa was met in heaven by her husband, Leopoldo; daughter, Emily DeForest; parents, Toribio and Andalecia Trujillo; brothers, Frank (Eloisa), Eduardo, Luis (Juanita), Henry (Josephina), Jerry (Mary), sisters, Cordelia (Esteban Martinez), Ercelia (Lupe Vigil); In-laws, Maximiliano and Emilia Esquibel; sister-in-law, Mary Swartz, brother-in-law, Tony Esquibel and Severiano Martinez. She is survived by her sons, Edward Esquibel, Dr. Alan Esquibel (Maria), Richard Esquibel (Wendy), daughters, Lorraine Rodriguez (John), Marilee Yamarone (Tom), Nimfa leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Bernie Martinez, brother, Eddie Trujillo (Placida); sister-in-law, Jo Esquibel. She is survived by a devoted nephews and nieces who loved and respected their aunt Nimfa as the matriarch of the Trujillo family. She was Godmother to Joyce Esquibel, Syliva Cuevas, Eli Trujillo and Leroy Swartz. She is also survived by her life-long friend Tila Alarid of Santa Fe. Nimfa was born in Chimayo, New Mexico, one of ten children, she attended John Hyson, Allison James Girls School in Santa Fe and was in the first class of girls admitted to Menaul High School in Albuquerque where she met her husband of 73 years, Leopoldo. Together they raised and educated 6 children, initially in Santa Fe, then in Northern California. Upon Leo’s death in 2010, Nimfa return to Santa Fe. Nimfa was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring daughter and sister, an extraordinary homemaker, a self-taught nutritionist, a wonderful cook, an interior decorator, seamstress, gardener, letter writer, and faithful friend. Nimfa never stopped. She always had a project going and food on the stove. She taught by example and her influence is now reflected in the talents and successes of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nimfa lived her life in the bosom of the Catholic Church. She served as president of the Legion of Mary for 25 years. On their 70th wedding anniversary, Leo and Nimfa received a special blessing signed by Pope John Paul II. They both had a special devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Santuario de Guadalupe was their parish when they lived in Santa Fe, and it is to that Shrine that they both requested to be taken before their burial to the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at The Santuario de Guadalupe in Santa Fe, with a rosary to be recited at 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., with a burial to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family of Mary Nimfa Esquibel has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.\r\n \r\n
