Maria Magdalena (Maggie) Vigil – 68, a resident of San Pedro passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Guachupangue, NM on August 7, 1943 to Jose Desiderio and Faustinita Garcia Vigil. Maggie was an incredible woman, a very loving mother to her beloved son, David, a wonderful sister who loved her sister and brothers immensely and our cherished “Grandma Maggie.” Family, faith, and preservation of tradition was of the utmost importance to her which she has instilled in her adoring family. Guachupangue was such a special place to her, it held many many special memories of her childhood, her loving parents, family and days gone by. She worked for the Los Alamos National Laboratory where her beautiful smile and personality surrounded her with many lifelong friends. Maggie retired in 2006 after many years of service. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, 2 brothers: Felix R. and Gilbert R. Vigil. She is survived by her son, David A. Salazar and wife Gina of Santa Cruz, NM; grandchildren: Theresa Salazar of Denver, CO and Nathan Trujillo of Coyote, NM; great-grandchildren: Antonia Salazar, Shania Trujillo and D’André Salazar; special friend, Joe Brito of Albuquerque; her sister and best friend, Tonie Vigil Cordova of Fairview; brothers: Horacio D. Vigil of Albuquerque, Dr. John C. Vigil and wife Elizabeth of Albuquerque, Ernesto (Arturo) Vigil and wife Dora of Chimayo, Wilfredo A. Vigil of El Duende; sister-in-law, Nettie Vigil of Albuquerque; special niece, Francie Cordova of Albuquerque; several other close nieces, nephews & other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with the following nephews and nieces carrying Tia Nena to her final resting place, Francie Cordova, Angela, Sophia, Victor, William and Alejo Vigil. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren, Antonia, Shania and D’Andre. The family of Maria Magdalena (Maggie) Vigil has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
