MARIA EMMA MARTINEZ-KING, 67, born in Canjilon and a longtime resident of La Puebla, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at her son Ben’s home in La Puebla surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abenicio Martinez and Gertrudes Montaño-Martinez; daughter, Carla Marie War and the father of her children, Jose H. War and ex-husband, Roger King.\r\nEmma was survived by her beloved companion, Armando Aranda; children, Joe Ben War and his wife Jeanette of La Puebla, Tommy War of McCurdy, Emily Arzabala-War and companion Arturo Montenegro of Amarillo, Texas and Josie Martinez and husband Jimmy of La Mesilla/Cebolla; adopted children, Jesse War, Emma War and companion Anthony Sargent; raised like a daughter, Rosa Mier-Lozoya; her dear grandchildren, Ben War, Jr and companion Anna Salazar, April War and companion Ritchie Baldonado, Jonathan War, Tracy War – Gallegos and husband Henry Gallegos, Fernando Arzabala and wife Mickey, Adriana “Nana” Arzabala, Jimmy “Jimbo” Martinez, Jr. and wife Andrea, Samantha Martinez and companion Isidro Mora, Jerome Martinez and companion Nakeisha Vigil, Daniel War, Tommy “TJ” War, Jr., Shanise War, and Aubrey War; great-grandchildren, Alejandra, Aracely, Alondra, Gabriela, Joshua, Sofia, Shaylene, Anthony “AJ”, Ashlyn, Nicole, Isaac, Felicia, Christina, Little Jesse, and one on the way; brothers, Melisendro and wife Eleanor of Canjilon and Gavino Martinez and companion Genevive Montano of Albuquerque; sisters, Maria E. Mier of Borger TX, Desi Martinez of Tierra Amarilla, Celina Mier and husband Antonio of Grand Junction, CO, Bertha Galvan of Alcalde; special cousins, Isabel and Roland Carter and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.\r\nEmma was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Emma was taken care of by her children and grandchildren, but the family would also like to express their appreciation to Emma’s caretakers: Reggie Salazar, Gail Martinez, Alvin Martinez, Victor Lopez, and Victoria Lucero. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in Canjilon. Burial to follow at the Canjilon Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Ben War, Jr, Jonathan War, Jesse War, Daniel War, T.K. War, Fernando Arzabala, Jimbo Martinez, and Jerome Martinez. The family of Maria Emma Martinez-King has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
