Maria Eliza - Age 81 - El Guache Martinez

\r\nMaria Eliza Martinez – Age 81 a resident of El Guache passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents: Silviano and Celina Martinez; mother and father-in-law: Ramoncita and Felix Martinez; maternal grandparents: Librado and Sinforosa Valdez; paternal grandparents: Antonio and Josefita Martinez all of El Guache. Maria Eliza Martinez took pride in her home and her family. She was a lifelong parishioner of San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez. She enjoyed making jellies, especially capulin. She loved to garden, she loved tending to her rose bushes, hollyhocks and lilac bushes. Enjoyed reading, raising her farm animals, praying her morning rosary, making tortillas, pancakes and empanaditas. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Felix Martinez of El Guache; brother, Leroy Martinez and wife Velma of Velarde; and their children who knew her as their grandmother: Leonard Martinez of Velarde, Carmella Sanchez and husband Andrew of Velarde, Carlos Martinez and wife Ariane of El Rito; “great-grandchildren”: Justin and Jonathan Sanchez of Velarde, Kayla Barrera and husband Ryan of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo; Steven Martinez of Las Cruces, Jahneah Martinez of Ohkay Owingeh and Sammaya and Nadiyah Martinez of El Rito; “great-great granddaughter”, Alliyah Barrera Ohkay Owingeh; and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a wake to follow at 6:30 p.m. and a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez with burial to follow at the San Jose Catholic Cemetery.
