Maria Edumenia Herrera, 99, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Petaca passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012 surrounded by her loving family and friends. God looked around His garden and found an empty place. Then He looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Herrera; daughter, Lillian Barela and 2 infant children. Mrs. Herrera is survived by her daughters: Feloniz Vigil and husband Severo of Albuquerque, NM; Loveida Martinez of Denver, CO; Adelma Esquibel and husband Ismael of Albuquerque, NM; son, Larry Herrera and wife Flora of Petaca, NM; 32 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 57 great great-grandchildren; 50 great great great-grandchildren; 1 great great great great-grandchild. Public visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Iglesia de la Divina Pastora Catholic Church in Petaca with burial to follow at Petaca Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be: Freddie Esquibel, Isidoro Herrera, Ricky Vigil, Ralphie Barela, Johnny Barela and Mark Martinez.
