Beloved mother Maria Cornelia Romero, 71, affectionately known as Connie, transitioned from this Earth on Sunday, March 18, 2018 surrounded by her loving daughter, family and her loyal companion Chiquita. Connie was born on October 19, 1946 to her loving parents, Juan Antonio and Fedelina Duran in the peaceful community of Tierra Amarilla. Connie attended school in Tierra Amarilla until ninth grade when she moved to Española and attended Española High School. Because her parents taught her to work hard, Connie attended McCurdy school and became certified as a Nursing Assistant. Her career took her in many colorful directions. She was a teachers aid and also worked as a law enforcement dispatcher and was the proud owner of Cornelia’s Native Foods in Española. Connie will be remembered as living true to the old adage, Eat Well, Laugh Often, Love Always and Pray Constantly. Connie was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her daughter, Pamela Romero and partner who she considered a daughter, Linette Campos; ex-husband and friend, Calletano (CB) Romero; brother, Jose Salvador Olguin; sister, Rosa and her husband Leroy (Coonie) Garcia; granddaughter, Angelica Martinez who she raised as a daughter; special great-grandsons, Christian Martinez, Landen Sandoval and Dylan Lovato; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, cousins, other relatives and a world full of friends. A rosary for eternal rest of Connie’s soul will be prayed Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Española. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. also at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with interment to follow at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery with a meal to follow at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Carrying Connie to her final place of rest will be Daniel Lovato, Dylan Lovato, Edward Chavez, Greg Medina, Christian Martinez and Mark Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are Chiquita Romero, Calletano (CB) Romero, Sherri Chavez, Beverly Padilla, Debra Martinez, Erlinda and Manuel Quintana, Susie Roybal, Theodora Valdez, Pablita Esquibel, Johanna Beavers, Amelia Gonzales, AnnMarie Galvan-Roybal, Dennis Galvan, Alice Martinez, Priscilla Valdez, Dulcinea Olguin, Diana Maestas, Dolores Garcia, Loretta Garcia and Barbara Tubb. The family of Maria Cornelia Romero has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
