MARIA AUGUSTINA OFELIA TRUJILLO de Ortega (TINA), 96, a resident of La Madera, passed away peacefully from this life to her eternal home with her family surrounding her with love and prayers on June 20, 2016. After a long struggle with a stroke that left her partially paralyzed she remained strong against all odds. She was born in Tres Piedras NM to Felipe de Jesus Trujillo and Francisquita Jaramillo de Trujllo on January 18, 1920. She was a devout Catholic and belonged to the Sacred Heart Society and the Cofradia de Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno in La Madera and Los Ancones. She also was a member of the Sociedad Protectora Coperativa in Ojo Caliente. She worked ardently to raise funds for the Church in La Madera and taught many how to pray and sing the prayers and alabados of her beloved Cofradia. She married Carlos Lucero Ortega on September 9, 1940, in La Madera and was a devoted housewife and mother to 8 children, plus others that she and her husband helped raise. A wonderful/creative cook, seamstress, weaver, and farmer she helped out with community functions donating her time for any event that needed her help. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Felipe and Francisquita Trujillo; husband Carlos L. Ortega; daughter, Betty Lou Ortega de Garcia and husband Adan Garcia Jr.; four grandchildren, Joseph Mirabal, Cassandra Ortega and Melvin Garcia and Dorothy Sanchez de Garcia; 9 siblings and their spouses, Amarante and Cleone V. Trujillo, Siria Trujillo, Onofre and Macario Sanchez, Juan F. and Augustina B. Tujillo, Carlota and Pablo Trujillo, Josefina and Merejildo Ocana, Alberto and Amalia G. and Dora G. Tujilllo, Guadalupe and Albino Ortega, Antonio and Ida C. Trujillo; father and mother-in-law, Vitor Lucero Ortega and Presciliana Montoya de Ortega; brothers and sisters,-in-law, Ofelia O. and Dennis Jaramillo, David and Adonelia P. Ortega, Celestino Pena and Juan Martinez. She is survived by one sister, Grace Trujillo de Martinez; sister-in-law, Rebecca Ortega de Pena both of La Madera; children, Carlos and Virginia Varela de Ortega, La Madera; Ernesto and Mary Ellen Medina de Ortega of Santa Fe, Vina and Frank Ortiz of Los Ojos, Jimmy Sr. and Connie Varela de Ortega of La Madera, Felipe Ortega of La Madera, Ana Trujillo and Mike Twitchell, Tooele, Ut., Innette and Leonard Mirabal of Santa Fe, as well as 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; God-daughter and niece whom she helped raise, Cordy Trujillo de Martinez and husband Horace Martinez of Canon Plaza and her nephew Juan A. Tujillo and wife Marina Gallegos de Trujillo of Albuquerque. Tina leaves many God-children, nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces and many cousins and many friends from all across the globe. A rosary will be recited by the Cofradia de NP Jesus and the Sacred Heart Society on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito, followed by a Velorio at the Oratorio de Nuestro Senor de Esquipula, Los Ancones. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito, followed with a burial at La Madera Catholic Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Francine, Addie, Randy, Carlos III, Darryl, Leon, Joseph, Roland, Edwin, Liana, Augusta, Shirley, Sharon, Doreen, Bernadette, Terence, Jimmy Jr., Bryan, Stephanie, Emiliano and Sonya. Heartfelt thanks to the various women who cared for her for the past six years, Guadalupe, Doreen Mirabal, Mirna Valeta, Noemi Rascon; her niece Bennie Pena de Fernandez, and most importantly Martha Olivares who stood by her side until her last breath, also a special thanks to Las Clinicas del Norte in Ojo Caliente, Especially Denise Falwell and Janet Lucero for the many home visits and care they gave her as well as to all the staff at Del Corazon Hospice for the care they gave her especially Jocob Gonzalez. We extended our heartfelt thanks to Johnny DeVargas and all the staff of DeVargas Funeral Home.
