d. May 24, 2015

MARIA SYLVIANITA CORDOVA, 95, a resident of La Jara, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 24, 2015 surrounded by her family. Reflecting on her long and fruitful life, her family shared laughter and tears. Sylvianita was born on November 29, 1919 to Jose Merced and Ramoncita Gutierrez in La Jara where she would remain a lifelong resident, raising her 5 children. She loved being outdoors working on her garden and fruit trees. She had the most beautiful gardens as she labored from sun up to sun down. Harvesting every fall from her garden and making jams and jellies from her fruit trees, anyone would tell you she was an excellent cook. A very loving wife, mother and grandmother, Sylvianita devoted her life to her family and serving the Lord Jesus Christ. She kept a journal filled with memories of all the time spent with her children and grandchildren who would come spend weeks and even months with her. She was also a historian, who was often interviewed for books and school assignments. Sylvianita was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Merced and Ramoncita; husband of 50 years, Eddie Cordova; son, Robert Cordova; granddaughter, Serena Amor Cordova; brother, Celso Montoya; sisters, Celia Sanchez, Armolita Herrera, Veronice and Ruth Montoya; and son-in-law, Fred Garcia. Mrs. Cordova is survived by her children, Mercy Garcia (Manuel), Vera Garcia, Ernesto Cordova, Beverly Corrales (Roger); 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at the Christian Faith Fellowship Church in Gallina with a devotional service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. also at the Christian Faith Fellowship Church in Gallina. Burial to follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Raymond, Anthony and Matthew Garcia, Eddie, Chris and Fred III Garcia, Amos Corrales, Estefan Cordova and Timothy Cordova. Honorary pallbearers named, Roger Corrales, Manuel Garcia, Nathan Crespin, granddaughters, Cece Corrales, Jolene Padilla, Cassandra Crespin, Bethany Cordova and Modesta Couch and her dear friend, Marcella Corrales. The family of Maria Sylvianita Cordova has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
