Maria - Age 87 - Chamita Sandoval-Duran

Maria Inez Sandoval-Duran, 87, a resident of Chamita passed away following a lengthy illness on Thursday, November 28, 2013. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Sergio A. Duran; parents, Jose Demecio and Erinea Sandoval; brother, Eliseo Sandoval; father and mother-in-law, Jose Todocio and Maria Lucia Duran; brother-in-law, Melisendro Duran, Gregorita Rael, half brother and sisters-in-law, Filimon and Anita Sandoval, Nick Sandoval, Flaymon Sandoval, Secundino Martinez, Sara Trujillo, Gilberto Barela, Hope Lopez, Rubel Trujillo, and Sara Cordova. Maria Inez and Sergio first met in Truchas and were later married in Wyoming in 1963, where she was a home maker taking care of her husband and home for the rest of her life. They lived in Hanna, Wyoming until they moved back to New Mexico. Maria is survived by her close cousin and care taker, Petrita Salazar of Chamita; Petrita’s children, Guillermo Salazar, Manuel Salazar and Jessica, Ray Romero and companion Frances, Melissa Martinez and kids; Petrita’s brother, Walter Sandoval and companion Dena; sisters-in-law, Ascelia Sandoval, and Eugenia Duran; her closest living relatives, Grace Sandoval (Eloy), Tony Trujillo (Emily), Alfredito Trujillo (Amelia), Marcelino Trujillo (Ida), Johnny Trujillo (JoAnn), Fidie Barela-Cordova, and Susie Barela; second cousins who helped in caring for Sergio and Maria, Lorrie Cobb, Betty Sandoval, Mary Sandoval, and Priscilla Rael, and Theresa and Paul; nephew who helped Petrita, Gene and Stella Duran; nephews and nieces, Dora, Esther, Flaymon, Junior, and Anita Sandoval. Devotional services will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Truchas Presbyterian Church. Burial to follow at the Los Llanitos Cemetery in Truchas. With the following serving the family as pallbearers; Guillermo Salazar, Ray Romero, Manuel Salazar, Roy Martinez, Archie Trujillo and Anival Cobb. Honorary pallbearers named are Lorie Cobb, Gene Duran, Stella Lopez, Mary Sandoval, Jake Sandoval, Betty Sandoval, Prescilla Rael, Theresa and Paul Rivera. The family of Maria Inez Duran has entrusted their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
