Marcus (Mark) Carlos Martinez, born on December 24, 1970, to Robert and Marcella Martinez passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of August 23, 2020, at his home in Austin, TX. Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jose de la Cruz and Antonia Maestas of Espanola, NM, Maximiliano and Mercedes Martinez of Alcalde, NM, and his brother Tim Martinez of Alcalde, NM.

Mark is survived by his parents Robert and Marcella, brother Robert A. Martinez, Troy Gras his soul mate and family, nephews whom he considered his brothers, John and Tim Martinez and great nephew Adam, Camyelle and her children Ariana, Ricardo Salazar & Lila, and his goddaughter Daphne Foye. Mark is also survived by his sister-in-law Henrietta Valdez, aunts and uncles: Leroy and Rose Garcia, Special aunt and madrina Diana Maestas, Padrino Joseph and Diane Maestas, Cipriano and Charlotte Martinez, Alice Martinez, Leo Quintana, and Nora Gallegos and their families. He is also survived by best friend Scott Happy. He also leaves behind his dog Wessley. Mark’s many cousins and friends that he loved are too many to mention by name for fear of forgetting someone. He thought that the most important thing in life was family that included both relatives and friends.

Mark graduated from Espanola Valley High in 1989. His continued his education at NM State University, and teaching became his passion. He taught school at Seguin and Aiken High Schools in Texas before applying for an administrative position in Austin where he competed with many, many applicants. He spent many years there, but his heart was in the classroom. When he started thinking of retirement, he decided he would go back to the classroom his last year or two. This would have been his second year in the classroom at Lake Travis High School.
